Freedom of Expression Challenge to Court Media Rules

The Supreme Court of Canada has granted the CBC leave to appeal a decision of the Quebec Superior Court affirmed by the Quebec Court of Appeal upholding rules for the conduct of the media in the precincts of the courts of the province. (The Superior Court rules were apparently adopted throughout provincial courts.) The rules, among other things, restrict where journalists can conduct interviews and prohibit the broadcast of official court tapes. The CBC sought declaratory relief citing freedom of expression. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation et al v. Attorney General of Quebec et al.
